One guy at one company says the words, "car" and "flying" in a different order and investors, commentators and futurists engage in a collective girl-crush frenzy not seen since Justin Bieber's last selfie spree.
True, that guy was Travis Kalanick and the company was Uber. And they announced plans to demonstrate flying cars in Dubai and Dallas in 2020 – just 42 months from now when the 2020 Expo opens in October in Dubai.
But before anyone starts scanning their apps to reserve an Uber flying car, designers and engineers have a few things to work out. Starting with the fact that, save for show-and-tell test flights, the technology isn't ready. Specifically, the batteries aren't ready.
