Last Thursday, a bunch of space capitalists sat across from a bunch of senators to talk policy. The panel included everyone from SpaceX's senior VP to the CEO of a small launch startup. Topics ranged from removing orbital debris to enabling deep space commerce; from eliminating bureaucratic speed bumps to dealing with space pirates. Yes, the discussion ranged wide, and at times weird—again, space pirates?—but overall one point was clear: The riches of space are America's to lose.
